Cara is a founding member of New York Mediation Partners, providing tailored conflict management services to companies, professional partnerships, closely held corporations, organizations and families. She is on the Board of Directors of the Family and Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York and Chairperson of its Continuing Education Committee. She is also a facilitator and trainer at the Center for Mediation in Law, a trained Parenting Co-ordinator and a Certified Community Mediator.
Cara began her career as a lawyer in Canada and continued her work as an attorney in New York City. After working in civil litigation for a number of years, she realized that being a litigator was not meant to be her professional path.
Cara began to think about mediation as a career when it became clear to her that the adversarial system did not help people confront and overcome conflicts in their lives. In the family context, she realized that divorce is a family problem with a legal component, not a legal problem with a family component. In the corporate context, it became clear to her that conflict inhibits productivity and efficiency and that litigation irreparably damages relationships, depletes resources and diverts attention from enhancing the bottom line.
As a result, Cara pursued, and continues to pursue, the study of mediation and the dynamics of conflict. She finds it rewarding and fulfilling to help people overcome conflict in their lives, maintain important personal and professional relationships and facilitate dialogue and solutions where none had been apparent.
Cara mediates in many different contexts including divorce, post-divorce conflict, pre-nuptial negotiations, court disputes, work place conflicts and professional disputes. Cara is a member of the Bars of Ontario, (Law Society of Upper Canada) and New York.
